The first steps can be the most powerful

As you plan long-term sustainability goals, these four steps can provide measurable short-term impacts – in some cases with minimal or no upfront investment.

Source a renewable energy mix

Bundling renewables into your current energy mix is one way to start making incremental progress immediately. Retail renewable energy is often the simplest option, as you can trace power back to renewable sources without the need for significant infrastructure changes.

How we can help:
Shell Energy can provide you with innovative solutions for business and enterprise renewable energy goals, such as retail-delivered power purchase agreements (PPAs) and virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs).

Energy in action:
Wells Fargo announced structured renewable energy agreements that provide enough renewable energy to meet 100% of the company’s eligible load in seven states, and approximately 1,200 properties across California and the mid-Atlantic states.

Increase efficiency

Improving HVAC and lighting system infrastructure can translate into significant energy savings, since lighting represents the largest single use of energy in commercial buildings, closely followed by heating and cooling.

How we can help:
Shell Energy offers solutions including a real-time smart energy management system to manage usage and efficiency at the site level. Our convenient subscription pricing model offers a low-risk way to ensure access to the newest and most efficient equipment with little to no up-front investment.

Nature-based offsets

Offset agreements are another easy-access option as your company takes its first steps toward more renewable operations. It’s not always possible to avoid or reduce emissions, especially over the short term. However, there are several recognized mechanisms for offsetting these emissions, including voluntary carbon credits.

How we can help:
Shell Energy can provide commercial and industrial facilities with tailor-made agreements to meet regulatory requirements, offset emissions, and meet internal sustainability goals.

Onsite renewable generation

Upgrading old equipment or starting new on-site solar projects can help reduce emissions through renewable energy generation. For example, on-site solar provides cost savings in the form of offsetting energy use during peak hours or receiving payment for excess energy generation through demand response programs.

Energy in action:
The Robert J. Lee Elementary School is the first net-zero elementary school in Texas, with a LEED Gold designation from the US Green Building Council. The school worked with MP2 Energy, doing business as Shell Energy, to strategize for its unique energy usage requirements, deploying 1,096 solar panels for on-site renewable generation and demand response. These efforts have saved the school district approximately $30,000 per year in energy costs.

How Shell Energy can help
