Visa is powering data with 100% renewables

Visa is moving its largest data center to 100% renewable power, working together with Shell Energy to achieve their sustainability goals.

Published: March 3, 2021

Visa, a leading global payments technology company, has announced an agreement with Shell Energy, to power its largest data center with 100% renewable energy for five years, beginning in 2023.

The Virginia-based data center accounts for one third of Visa’s total global energy usage. By taking it renewable, the company will make a significant step towards meeting its target of transitioning to 100% renewable electricity by 2030.

Thanks to an innovative approach to demand management, the deal will also allow Visa to draw additional renewable energy from new solar capacity on the grid. Shell Energy will procure electricity from these new solar projects, which Visa expects to begin using in February 2023.

Shell Energy is well-positioned to provide businesses with tailored and competitive renewable resource packages to support internal and external sustainability initiatives.
